Kathy Sheeran - 'Shopping Confessions' and 'Shop Smart'

Shopping & How to Save Money Shopping Online.

Kathy Sheeran

Outcomes from Kathy's presentation:

  • Tips on online shopping
  • How to shop stress free for xmas
  • Some of the best websites to shop from Australia, US & UK
  • Best times to shop
  • How to save money shopping online

Kathy is a self confessed ‘shopaholic’ and the author of Shopping Confessions, shoppingconfessions.com.au the popular website and ebook which is a one-stop-shop introduction to shopping online.

Kathy has quickly become the ‘online shopping guru’ for Australia and is heavily in demand to share her knowledge on the subject. There is hardly a week that goes by without Kathy commenting on online shopping trends on primetime TV from ‘A Current Affair’ to ‘The Morning Show’, with her own segment ‘Bag a Bargain’.

As well as appearing on TV she also has a weekly column and blog for Sunday Telegraph ‘shop SMART’ which is now one of the most read sections on the paper.

Kathy says “There are so many different areas of your life where dollars can be saved. The trick to getting value for money is in the research and being informed. I’m thrilled to be able to share all of my shopping experiences and money saving ideas - whatever you’re looking for”

Kathy saw the opportunity to take the hard work out of online shopping, compiling a list of the best websites from Australia and around the world. After years of research, Kathy's shopping secrets and confessions make up her eBook, Shopping Confessions, which is soon to be updated with a much bigger A-Z online shopping directory.

Kathy is married with 2 teenage step children, but before she was married her motto was “Dress for Success”, and presentation was everything! Kathy always dressed to the nines and money was not a problem when it came to fashion, her clients knew her as the girl with the fab shoes in finance!

Once she was married and had other financial priorities, Kathy started to learn how to shop for a bargain online and she has not looked back since.

Kathy resonates with viewers and shoppers because they relate to her, she is from Greek heritage, lives in the burbs, has children and tells it as it really is, and her passion for shopping and getting a bargain is quite infectious.

People are so inspired and influenced by Kathy’s tips on what sites to use, that companies have reported to have had their biggest day of business ever following Kathy giving them a mention on TV or in her column.

So Kathy certainly has quite a powerful story for the girl who has made her hobby into her profession and is loving every moment of it!

Kathy will talk about how she turned a hobby into a full time business that has expanded to importing a clothing label from Miami and the launch of shoe confessions in a couple of weeks.

"Use the natural talent of your people"

Geoff Appleton

Outcomes from Geoff's presentation:

-Understand how to pick the best from your short list of candidates.
-Get the best out of your team by using each person more effectively.
-Recognise the time to move people out of your business

Geoff Appleton

Working for large corporations, primarily in the travel and tourism industry, has given Geoff a real insight to how individuals respond to leadership styles, both in small and large teams. His work with major global airlines has seen him living in more than 20 countries providing a thorough cross cultural background, often leading teams of locally employed managers.

An appointment to oversee a cabin crew workforce of several thousand people provided a peak experience and understanding of delegation, people involvement and industrial relations negotiations, having also been involved in collective bargaining through the Betriebsrat system in Germany.

Geoff is a planner and strategist at heart but has had many operational roles including day to day management at major airports. This has led to more General Management roles including the control of one of the largest national corporate travel agencies, which experienced a significant financial turnaround during his leadership of the small management team there.

His sales and marketing activities have brought him close to advertising agencies, hotels and National Tourism Organisations, latterly becoming involved directly in the business of Outdoor Advertising.

More recently, Geoff was appointed by a major financial institution to manage their key national and global relationships in Sydney. This brought him alongside corporate executives in a variety of market segments, allowing an opportunity to study similarities and differences in the way business was being conducted.

During the last 7 years he has been running a small business helping leaders get the best from themselves and from the people that they lead.  He is the Joint Founder and Managing Partner of Polonious Resources, a Human Resource Consultancy.

Adrian Rainey

Adrian Rainey is a world-leading authority on the power of commitment. He played professional rugby league at 18 years of age and was crowned rookie of the year. Soon an opportunity to move to England and play for Hull KR was given to him and he took it. At the age of 25, back in Australia playing for the Bulldogs, he decided to retire from playing professional rugby league. The thought of investing boundless energy into business excited him too much. He opened his first business and started training people outdoors.Very quickly he moved into a premises and went from no income to turning over black belt income in less than 6 months. Within 12 months he was managing up to 12 staff and became one of Australia's most successful personal training studios. Over the last 5 years he has sold millions of dollars worth of training programs by understanding the changing nature of consumer behavior. After starting out his career in the National Rugby League and overcoming a major setback to return to this elite level and then becoming a successful entrepreneur, he most recently authored his first pocket book, Blood In The Water: The Power Of Commitment.

How can neuroscience help your business?

Dominique Beck

This presentation will enlighten NBBS members about the latest insights from neuroscience and what this means for business. You will find out that this knowledge is not only intriguing but also very practical when managing others or when dealing with clients.

NBBS members will hear about:

- Neuroscience: How the brain works

- Why you want to apply this knowledge in business
- Specific brain based strategies to use with staff and clients

Dominique presents insights from neuroscience research in a very hands-on, practical way. Her goal is to inspire business owners, managers and leaders to work with others in ways that will really bring about positive results. Once we understand how our brain works, we realise our amazing potential - it is about learning how to tap into that, for our own benefit and the benefit of others.

Dominique has two special coaching offers for NBBS members: one for group coaching and one for individual coaching sessions.

About Dominique:

Dominique's coaching philosophy is based on knowing that we can optimise our thinking in order to maximise our performance - in the areas of leadership, personal and work performance, interpersonal skills and goal achievement. Coaching is neither only for athletes nor is it a random meeting over a cappuccino: It is a science-based art - nurturing possibilities to create realities.

Dominique is an experienced neuroscience-based coach and trainer. She works with people one on one, with leaders as well as management teams, specialising in leadership, personal and work performance, interpersonal skills and goal achievement. She has an innate capacity to surface deeper issues, facilitated with rigorous technical skills. Through a clearly structured, strategic and solution-focused process, clients optimise their thinking for improved performance as leaders, (business) partners and human beings.

Dominique has a multi-disciplinary academic background and worked as a research consultant in private and public sector organisations. The focus on this work was on organisational effectiveness, workplace flexibility and more. She is involved in teaching 'Leadership in Management' at Macquarie University and does pro bono mentoring.

The coaching approach that Dominique uses is based on neuroscience, ie how the brain works. She blends that with Crucial Conversations, Non-Violent Communication, Psychodrama and Energy Psychology. Dominique is enrolled in a postgraduate certificate on the neuroscience of leadership.

Peter Shaw "Sales strategies - getting inside the customers head"

"Sales strategies - getting inside the customers head"

Peter Shaw

Here is a quick summary of Peter's presentation
The presentation was a small piece borrowed from our 4 day business workshop. We looked at some questions you can easily insert into your business, especially if you can harness the power of the clipboard!
-"What is important to you about [product/service]?"
-"How will you know when you've got what you want?"
-"How many options do you need to consider?"
-Ask them if they have made a similar purchase before... then "How did you know it was the one for you?"

For all of these questions, you record the answers in your mind, or on the clipboard, and then feed the answers back and ALLOW them to buy during your sales interaction. You should find yourself speaking directly to the core of the person, and lighting them up!

Of course, these are just a small part of an entire business, but very important parts to have and refine.
